Fetch.AI weekly newsletter #015 – Back to Brussels

Hello from everyone at Fetch.AI,

This week the team have travelled to the European Parliament, recruited new members of staff and continued their efforts to engage with the online community.

Tuesday was a particularly busy day. Our CTO Toby Simpson and senior programme manager Maria Minaricova attended the Blockchain for Europe Summit in Brussels. It was a great opportunity to share ideas with industry leaders and MEPs such as Eva Kaili (Chair of the Future of Science & Technology Committee at the European Parliament) and Peteris Zilgalvis (Head of Unit, Digital Innovation and Blockchain at the European Commission). A range of topics were discussed over the course of the day, including governance of the technology and its potential impact on digital identity, healthcare and mobility.

On the same day, one of our advisors, Melvyn Weeks (an assistant professor in economics at Cambridge University), attended the World Energy Council forum in London where the benefits of blockchain technology to the energy industry were discussed.

This week we have strengthened our team with the recruitment of two new members of staff. Attila Bagoly has a PhD in statistical physics from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. Diarmid Campbell has more than 20 years of experience developing commercial software, primarily in the video games industry. Both are joining us as software engineers.

This week we checked in with senior software engineer Edward Fitzgerald to learn about what he has been working on in recent months. Ed leads the ledger development team and in addition to discussing the testing of the ledger, Ed gave us a sneak preview of the appearance of the prototype wallet.

This week Ed’s team also made another code release for our scalable ledger. The update includes a new peer-to-peer system and a vastly improved transaction processing pipeline. You can find out more about the code release by visiting our repository on GitHub.

We have two new videos to share this week. The first is our chief executive Humayun Sheikh’s interview with Crypto Beadles. He spoke about our vision for the future and explained how our network operates using autonomous agents.

The second video we have for you is the recording of our third meetup in London, which took place last week.

As you can tell, there is a lot going on. Thanks for reading our update and we hope you have a good weekend.
